LCD flat panel TVs have been flying off the shelves in recent months. If you have been one of the lucky ones to have purchased a new TV or if you plan on purchasing a new flat panel in the near future, you are no doubt giving careful consideration to mounting your flat screen on the wall. A decently mounted flat screen TV will not only provide optimal observing for your new TV, but will also aid spruce up the décor of your room.

When giving careful consideration to an LCD TV wall mount take these 5 things into consideration.

1. Size of TV – When purchasing a wall mount, one of the primary things you will see is that there are dissimilar wall mounts for dissimilar size TVs. There is a huge divergence in size and weight in a 22 inch LCD equated to a 50 inch model. Mounting hardware will provide more help for larger TVs such as connecting them to multiple studs rather of just one. The brackets for fastening to the TV will also evidently differ from a big TV to a little one.

2. Type of wall – Flat panels may be mounted on respective types of wall. The most mutual type of wall is one with wood studding. You will need a stud finder in order to locate the center of the studs which you will mount your TV to. Another mutual mounting option is to mount the TV to a solid concrete wall or a cinder block wall. In order to install on these walls you will need to use concrete anchors for a secure connection. Most wall mounts will include the proper fastening hardware.

3. Type of LCD TV wall mount – There are a lot of types of wall mounts to choose from.

o A fixed wall mount does not have the bells and whistles of the other types. Once your TV is mounted you will not be capable to move it at all so take extra care in making sure the TV is precisely where you want it to go.

o A tilting mount provides some extra flexibleness by permitting you to tilt the TV up or down to ascertain a proper watching angle. Generally a tilting mount will rotate up regarding 5 degrees and down with regards to 15 degrees. This is a good choice for a great deal of huge screen flat panels often times found in a home theater or family room.

o Another option is an arm mount. These are more mutual for littler LCDs as opposed to big screens. These will concede your TV to be flat versus the wall or will grant them to swing out a foot or more from the wall in order to view it from a potpourri of locatings and angles. Many arm mounts will likewise grant the TV to swivel or tilt as well and are occasionally referred to as articulating arm mounts.

o For the extreme in wall mounts you may consider a motorized wall mount. They grant virtual silent operation permitting you to rotate the TV for an optimal watching angle with the touch of a remote button. These may surely provide a “wow” element for your home theater.

4. Cable management – You will want to make sure you plan on how your TV will be connected to the rest of your home theater components. Some people plainly install molding in order to hide the wires, while most humans will install a wall plate that allows the connectors to be run through the wall to see to it a clean clutter free look. Be conscious of the proper electrical code and consult an electrician if necessary. Power cords ought to not be run through the walls and most times a receptacle will be installed behind the TV in order to provide power to the TV. HDMI cables have simplified things by permitting both audio and HD video signals through one cable, but make sure to likewise consider adding element and composite connections as well since it is much having little impact to do it now rather then adding them later. Many LCD TV wall mounts will have cable management choices built in to them for added convenience.

5. Where to mount your LCD flat panel – Finally you will need to figure out where to mount your TV. The emplacement will be dependent upon your room environs as some persons choose to mount above things in the room such as a fireplace. It is in general consorted that for an optimal watching experience you ought to mount the center of the TV somewhat above eye level of your looking at position. Also keep in mind to leave sufficient room for your center speaker and front speakers of your sound system.

A clean install of a high quality LCD wall mount will be a welcome addition to your home and a outstanding way to showcase that new LCD flat panel.

5Worth each penny!
By T. Tio
Like most people, I was excessively affected emotionally to buy a plasma TV just because it is wall mountable. But realistically, I didn’t want to drill huge holes in my wall, nor pay $500 for it to be in a professional manner installed. And I soon came to realize that even if I did mount the TV on the wall, I would still need to have a tacky looking AV stand for all of my other components. This stand solved all of my problems! It’s sturdy, looks great, is somewhat priced, and it’s easy to assemble.

When the package arrived, the box was trashed gravely from shipping. I’m convinced that UPS was the one to re-tape the whole thing together because I found a box cutter inside the box. Though, to my surprise, because SANUS packaged the product so well (lots of styrofoam), not one thing was damaged. Inside the package is the base, the shelves, hardware necessitated to mount the TV including allen wrenches (all you need to supply is a monkey wrench and a phillips screwdriver) and an extra set of black feet for the stand (the base comes with silver feet attached). The base is a shiny black, and the glass shelves are tinted.

Putting this stand together was requiring little effort than anything I’ve ever purchased from IKEA (takes no more than half an hour including unpacking the box). Every bolt and screw is labeled, and the manual is detailed. It looks daunting at first, but you only end up using half of the supplied bolts/washers/etc. I commend mounting the TV before screwing the glass shelves into the post and hooking up parts for ease of mobility. An extra hand is helpful, but I was competent to mount a 42″ plasma by myself.

The mounting bracket and shelves are adaptable and may move vertically up and down the post, but ought to be done so by unscrewing the bolts that hold them in place. The TV may be tilted up and down, but not side to side (this may be done without unmounting the TV).

Just to give you an idea of how some elements you may fit on the stand, I have a speaker on the top shelf, cable box and PS2 on the middle shelf, and receiver, TiVo, and DVD player on the base. I don’t have room for any more though.

Considerations: There isn’t much room inside the post to put all of your cables. And it’s not the easiest task either – actually took me longer to thread the cables through than put the stand together. But realistically, the only cables that need to go inside are those that connect directly to your TV. The rest of your cables (ie. DVD to receiver etc.) will be concealed behind your components. Also, you ought to only have to do this once upon set up, so in the end it is well worth it.

Which brings me to my next topic – if you have a lot of parts and a lot of wires, it becomes more difficult to hide them visibly because this is not an encased stand. It helps if you use HDMI to cut back on the number of cables you have, or if you have short cables and don’t have a lot of bunched up excess wiring. Luckily, my solution was to put this stand in the corner of the room, so you can’t genuinely see anything from the side view.

All in all it was well worth each penny (and I was skeptic in regards to spending $300+ on such a simple looking piece of furniture). The most inexpensive price by far was online through Amazon. I would by this stand again in a heartbeat. Amazingly, my TV looks larger mounted on this stand than it did sitting on my old one. My only regret is that I didn’t buy this stand sooner!

EDIT: It is now nearing the end of 2008, closely 2 years later. I still use this stand and still think this stand is great. It even withstood a U-haul move. But, flat panel TV’s are much more lowcost and main stream than they were a few years ago. Having said that, when I was looking for a ‘mountable’ stand back then, I didn’t have a good deal of options. Now, you may find a decent one at Walmart for $100 that even swivels. I do still think it’s a outstanding stand that looks much better than galore I see today, but the steep price tag makes it less beautiful now when there are for less alternatives.

But, you’ll be glad to know I’ve likewise purchased a new TV since then, and this stand accommodated the larger size while still using the same brackets and screws from my last TV (both comply w/ VESA standards).

5Great Product
By M-Lo
So I took a leap of faith and purchased this stand without seeing it in person. Let me tell you that the picture provided by Amazon does not do this justice. My orignal worries were the shelves were too little and the stand too tall. Boy was I wrong. The shelves were ample in size. On the littler top shelf alone I was competent to place the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 with HD-DVD drive (all vertically standing). And place a dvd player and receiver on the bottom glass shelf. Word of warning re: glass shelving do not place anything with weight on the outer perimeter (duh) it is glass and may break. Couple of complaints. The instructions were not as simple as pictured (take your time) peculiarly with the mounting of your TV. I employed this with the Samsung LN-S4095D 40″ 1080p LCD HDTV and it looks Spectacular. Other complaint Delivery was HORRIBLE. The box was tattered and the deliverance took alot longer than specified. I’m a prime fellow member and upgraded for 1 day shipping. I waited 3 days to get it. All UPS and Amazon could say was sorry and refund my $3.99. Again GREAT PRODUCT. HORRIBLE SHIPPING and execution by UPS and Amazon.

5Easy to put together and beautiful!!!
By Binh Lam
This is the perfective width stand for an 46″ HDTV. It hangs it very secure and would also be good for 52″ screens, even though at 52″, the set will be noticeably wider than the stand.

The glass shelves themselves are astoundingly strong tempered glass that may supposedly support up to 50lbs, even though you probably would not to put a huge size amp/receiver on it. However, it seems strong sufficient to support my huge 25 lb center speaker, which thanks to the adaptable shelves, I am capable to elevate it to only half an inch under my TV which is idealisti for movie watching. I was worried at firstborn that the center spkr might be too heavy but it has been sitting finelooking on it for in regards to 3 weeks now.

I employed the wider sized glass for the top shelf to accomdate my extra wide center spkr and my dvd player on the glass shelf under it. My receiver sits at the base of the stand and I will always rest easy knowing that the receiver has PLENTY of ventaliation thanks to the open design and adaptable height shelves.

The pole itself is one solid piece of extruded alumimum that is thick and very well constructed. It is in all likelihood the firmest piece in the kit. The base also has reinforced metal framing beneath the MDF wood base, so there are no worries regarding either the base or pole failing. The only thing that is not impressive is the black finish of the base which is rather nice to look at and shiny, but you may tell that the layer of lacquer used is rather thin and could wear out over time or chip without apparent effort if you’re not careful. Also, due to the finish and the glass shelves, there will be visible dust buildup after a week or so.

This project is for the most part a 1 man project, but you will in all likelihood need 2 people when it comes time to mounting your bigscreen LCD or Plasma to the stand for anything 42″ or bigger. Tools required will be a phillips screwdriver and wrench for the 6 huge screws at the base where the pole sits. The rest of the screws all use allen wrenches which are provided.

Also word of counsel for the glass shelves. Try not to put anything heavy that is made out of metal or ceramic directly on the glass surface. While their structure is rather strong, tempered glass may without apparent effort shatter into thousands if pieces you knock it with something made of metal/cermamic. If you want to put anything that has metal or ceramic on it, then make sure it has rubber feet or something in between.
