Plasma TVs are high-end television sets with screens in general more spectacular than conventional TV sets. Such sets are made from a plasma display panel. There are two glass panels that comprises a lot of little cells. A mixture of two gases, Xenon and Neon are present inside the cells. These gases are turned into plasma electrically. It then stimulates the phosphors to construct light. They are a type of flat panel display. The screen size of a plasma set is more than 940mm or 37 inch. Plasma TVs are normally confused with LCD TVs. LCD is another kind of big screen TV, but with dissimilar features.
There are two basic types of Plasma TVs.
- HDTV or High Definition TV
- EDTV or Enhanced Definition TV
The solution of HDTV is 1024*768 whereas the solution of EDTV starts from 852*480.
When buying your plasma TV, you need to keep some basic points in mind, you need to look for a lot of basic services that this TV must provide you. If your TV fails to meet up the basic criteria, it is not worth buying a plasma Television.
All plasma TVs have a heap of basic features. You need to do a little exploration before buying, so that you may compare the further and added positive features and may buy the best one. The features that general plasma TVs provide are,
- HDTV support
- Screen size
- Appearance
- Display resolution
- Connectivity
The price is another indispensable factor that you ought to keep in your mind. Usually plasma TVs cost a very huge amount. So sort out your plan accordingly. First make your budget. Then you need to find the brand that will give you all the facilities and a lot of added vantages that other brands do not provide and that too within your budget. Do check whether the model is in a proper working condition or not. Beware of phony companies merchandising second hand refurbished TVs as a brand new model. Such models are not dependable and may fail within a short amount of time of time.
Another necessary factor that you must keep in mind before buying a plasma TV is to be very specific with regards to the solution of your TV. Previously the solution applied to be rather low. Such lower solution was only competent of supporting standard definition Television. Nowadays more high-resolution models are available and the standard definition television has become exclusively obsolete. Nowadays, a 42 inch plasma television comes with a solution of 1024 X 768. The screen solution of 50 inch sets varies from 1280 X 720 to 1366 X 768. It is better not to settle with any model that provides a lower solution at closely an equivalent price.
The screen size of you television is immensely important. Usually a plasma TV screen ranges amidst 42 inches to 70 inches. A higher sized screen is likewise available. However, less than 42 inches has become outdated. When buying your TV, you will have to be conscious of the screen size as well as the measurement of your room or hall where you plan to keep it. Always buy a screen that fits in your room and suits your interior decoration. Another crucial factor is the watching distance. There ought to be sufficient looking at space left after placing the big screen TV. Otherwise, you won’t be competent to get the most out of the television set.
Providing the right space for your television is a very crucial factor. The place where you ought to keep it normally depends on the type of plasma TV you are buying. The structure of plasma TVs are sleek, so it will be better to keep them on table or wall mounted. Do not place it over or near the fireplace. The fireplace generates heat, which is destructive for the longevity and performance of your TV. For a table mount plasma TV, you need to measure the width of the screen. Make sure that you have sufficient space to keep it properly. Leave at least one or two inches from both sides, back and top side of your TV because the heat generated by it may injure the quality of the sound and picture. This extra space is required for the connection access and ventilation.
Paying proper heed to the features and connectivity of a plasma TV before buying is essential. A plasma TV must consist all those inputs so that it could be connected with respective devices. It will have to contain, RGB, S-Video, Composite, HDMI, Component, etc. It will be better if you likewise search for a model that will provide side and front panel audiovisual inputs for hooking up a games console and even a camcorder. If so, a USB 2.0 connection and HDMI port has to be there included with the front panel.
Plasma TVs are flat screen and they provide you the option of watching from both sides and centre. If you find it difficult to watch it beyond a 45-degree angle or you find the picture faded from that angle, then it is not worth buying that model.
The picture luminance is another good quality of such TVs which sets them detached from other TVs. Most of them are capable of regulating their luminance mechanically to the level of light in the room. When buying a plasma television, opt for the one which provides a luminance ratio of 550cd/m2.
To conclude, when looking to buy a plasma screen TV, be sure to compare the market to get a good deal. The perfective plasma screen will not be too big for your room, will have an suitable sized screen for you and your watching habits, have the capability to connect to your other audio-visual instrumentation and will be a sensible price. Although plasma screen TVs are very desirable and stylish, not all models will suit all buyers so be sure to consider your choices carefully.

Worth each penny! By T. Tio Like most people, I was excessively affected emotionally to buy a plasma TV just because it is wall mountable. But realistically, I didn’t want to drill huge holes in my wall, nor compensate $500 for it to be in a professional manner installed. And I soon came to realize that even if I did mount the TV on the wall, I would still need to have a tacky looking AV stand for all of my other components. This stand solved all of my problems! It’s sturdy, looks great, is somewhat priced, and it’s easy to assemble.
When the package arrived, the box was trashed gravely from shipping. I’m convinced that UPS was the one to re-tape the whole thing together because I found a box cutter inside the box. Though, to my surprise, because SANUS packaged the product so well (lots of styrofoam), not one thing was damaged. Inside the package is the base, the shelves, hardware necessitated to mount the TV including allen wrenches (all you need to supply is a monkey wrench and a phillips screwdriver) and an extra set of black feet for the stand (the base comes with silver feet attached). The base is a shiny black, and the glass shelves are tinted.
Putting this stand together was having little impact than anything I’ve ever purchased from IKEA (takes no more than half an hour including unpacking the box). Every bolt and screw is labeled, and the manual is detailed. It looks daunting at first, but you only end up using half of the supplied bolts/washers/etc. I commend mounting the TV before screwing the glass shelves into the post and hooking up constituents for ease of mobility. An extra hand is helpful, but I was capable to mount a 42″ plasma by myself.
The mounting bracket and shelves are adaptable and may move vertically up and down the post, but must be done so by unscrewing the bolts that hold them in place. The TV may be tilted up and down, but not side to side (this may be done without unmounting the TV).
Just to give you an idea of how a heap of elements you may fit on the stand, I have a speaker on the top shelf, cable box and PS2 on the middle shelf, and receiver, TiVo, and DVD player on the base. I don’t have room for any more though.
Considerations: There isn’t much room inside the post to put all of your cables. And it’s not the easiest task either – actually took me longer to thread the cables through than put the stand together. But realistically, the only cables that need to go inside are those that connect directly to your TV. The rest of your cables (ie. DVD to receiver etc.) will be concealed behind your components. Also, you will have to only have to do this once upon set up, so in the end it is well worth it.
Which brings me to my next topic – if you have a lot of constituents and a lot of wires, it becomes more difficult to hide them visibly because this is not an encased stand. It helps if you use HDMI to cut back on the number of cables you have, or if you have short cables and don’t have a lot of bunched up excess wiring. Luckily, my solution was to put this stand in the corner of the room, so you can’t actually see anything from the side view.
All in all it was well worth each penny (and I was skeptic regarding spending $300+ on such a simple looking piece of furniture). The most inexpensive price by far was online through Amazon. I would by this stand again in a heartbeat. Amazingly, my TV looks more prominent mounted on this stand than it did sitting on my old one. My only regret is that I didn’t buy this stand sooner!
EDIT: It is now nearing the end of 2008, closely 2 years later. I still use this stand and still think this stand is great. It even withstood a U-haul move. But, flat panel TV’s are much more lowcost and main stream than they were a few years ago. Having said that, when I was looking for a ‘mountable’ stand back then, I didn’t have some options. Now, you may find a decent one at Walmart for $100 that even swivels. I do still think it’s a great stand that looks much better than a lot of I see today, but the steep price tag makes it less beautiful now when there are for less alternatives.
But, you’ll be glad to recognise I’ve also purchased a new TV since then, and this stand accommodated the larger size while still using the same brackets and screws from my last TV (both comply w/ VESA standards).

Great Product By M-Lo So I took a leap of faith and purchased this stand without seeing it in person. Let me tell you that the picture provided by Amazon does not do this justice. My orignal worries were the shelves were too little and the stand too tall. Boy was I wrong. The shelves were plentiful in size. On the littler top shelf alone I was competent to place the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 with HD-DVD drive (all vertically standing). And place a dvd player and receiver on the bottom glass shelf. Word of warning re: glass shelving do not place anything with weight on the outer perimeter (duh) it is glass and may break. Couple of complaints. The instructions were not as simple as pictured (take your time) in particular with the mounting of your TV. I employed this with the Samsung LN-S4095D 40″ 1080p LCD HDTV and it looks Spectacular. Other complaint Delivery was HORRIBLE. The box was tattered and the deliverance took alot longer than specified. I’m a prime fellow member and upgraded for 1 day shipping. I waited 3 days to get it. All UPS and Amazon could say was sorry and refund my $3.99. Again GREAT PRODUCT. HORRIBLE SHIPPING and execution by UPS and Amazon.

Easy to put together and beautiful!!! By Binh Lam This is the perfective width stand for an 46″ HDTV. It hangs it very secure and would also be good for 52″ screens, altho at 52″, the set will be noticeably wider than the stand.
The glass shelves themselves are astoundingly strong tempered glass that may supposedly help up to 50lbs, though you in all likelihood would not to put a big size amp/receiver on it. However, it seems strong sufficient to help my big 25 lb center speaker, which thanks to the adaptable shelves, I am competent to elevate it to only half an inch beneath my TV which is idealisti for movie watching. I was worried at basi that the center spkr might be too heavy but it has been sitting finelooking on it for when it comes to 3 weeks now.
I used the wider sized glass for the top shelf to accomdate my extra wide center spkr and my dvd player on the glass shelf under it. My receiver sits at the base of the stand and I will always rest easy knowing that the receiver has PLENTY of ventaliation thanks to the open design and adaptable height shelves.
The pole itself is one solid piece of extruded alumimum that is thick and very well constructed. It is in all likelihood the firmest piece in the kit. The base also has reinforced metal framing beneath the MDF wood base, so there are no worries when it comes to either the base or pole failing. The only thing that is not impressive is the black finish of the base which is rather nice to look at and shiny, but you may tell that the layer of lacquer used is rather thin and could wear out over time or chip without apparent effort if you’re not careful. Also, due to the finish and the glass shelves, there will be visible dust buildup after a week or so.
This project is largely a 1 man project, but you will in all probability need 2 humans when it comes time to mounting your bigscreen LCD or Plasma to the stand for anything 42″ or bigger. Tools required will be a phillips screwdriver and wrench for the 6 big screws at the base where the pole sits. The rest of the screws all use allen wrenches which are provided.
Also word of counsel for the glass shelves. Try not to put anything heavy that is made out of metal or ceramic directly on the glass surface. While their structure is rather strong, tempered glass may effortlessly shatter into thousands if pieces you knock it with something made of metal/cermamic. If you want to put anything that has metal or ceramic on it, then make sure it has rubber feet or something in between.
